Kuta Lombok is know for its great beaches with crystal clear water and white sand. Here are our favorites, rent a scooter and explore! We will see you back in the restaurant after exploring the south coast of Lombok.

I bet that you've already seen the classic photos of a herd of buffaloes walking down a long white- sand beach with an epic backdrop of rounded hills. Selong Belanak is another great beach near Kuta Lombok that I'd highly recommend stopping at.
If you're a beginner surfer, then the best time to visit Selong Belanak is during high tide. There are plenty of surf schools that will rent a board for relatively cheap, and many are eager to teach you. Surfing at Selong Belanak is a small and low sandy break which makes it a great place to learn how to surf.

Even if you're not surfing, Selong Belanak is great for swimming and makes a great place to chill. Unfortunately, we weren't lucky enough to catch a snap of the buffaloes but decided instead to explore the beach and walked to the rocky point on the western headland. We were surprised to find a small, secluded beach and some shallow rock pools to to swim in. 


In terms of the famous beaches in south Lombok, or on the south coast in general, Tanjung Aan is undeniably a crowd favorite.

This incredible white-sand beach has everything you could want, from calm tropical waters to a solid surf break. It's really the best of both worlds. Also a perfect beach to visit with children, perfect to play for hours in the sand and easy for swimming, not many waves in the front.
 There are nice local style warungs cooking up nice Indonesian food and cold coconuts. What else could you wish for!


Seger Beach is only a 10-minute ride on a scooter from the center of Kuta Lombok town.

Pantai Seger is a great spot for a swim and a cold coconut from one of the beachside warungs. Pantai means 'beach' by the way so that's why most locals put it before the name of the beach.

Seger Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Kuta Lombok and a great spot to beach bum, go swimming in the cool waters, and marvel at tropical paradise surroundings.
 Just over the headland from Seger Beach, is a popular surf spot called Seger Point, one of the best Kuta Lombok Beaches.

You can either ride your scooter around the hillside to Seger Point and pay a parking fee of 5,000 IDR or take a short walk up and over the hill through some cow paddocks and make your way down to Seger Point this way.

Straw huts line the water’s edge on this beautiful Kuta Lombok beach making it a perfect spot to perch up and gaze out over the ocean or paddle out on a surfboard to score some waves.


Mawi Beach is one of the best surf beaches near Kuta Lombok for intermediate and advanced surfers. It takes a little bit of effort to get here, involving a roughly 45-minute motorbike ride from Kuta Lombok.

The best way to find it is to simply follow the directions on Google Maps, which are updated and accurate. After a smooth 30-minute ride on a sealed road up the southern Lombok coast, you'll need to turn onto a rough, bumpy dirt road for the last 15-minute stretch.
 There is a 10 000 Rupiah entry ticket per motorbike that you'll need to pay near the entry to Mawi Beach, so bring some small money.

Great spot to watch the surfers as the break is quite close. There are some barugas to hang out and the local warung cooks nice Indonesian dishes and they have a small shop.
 We also recommend to hike up the small hill on the right for some awesome views and if you want to enjoy a private beach walk down on the other side to go for a swim.


Pantai Mawun is a quiet beach that's only a short 15-minute hop from Kuta Lombok.

Mawun is a great option if you'd prefer to chill out on a secluded beach close to Kuta Lombok. There is a small surf break here, but it's not very popular. Instead, you'll get to enjoy insane aqua water and a quiet, likely isolated white-sand beach.


Serangan is the bay after Selong Belanak, also a nice surf spot. We usually go to Segara Resort, small beachfront resort and the perfect spot to chill and have lunch after a walk on Serangan Beach. Spacious set up and open for outside guests to have lunch and use the seating at the beach or in the restaurant. Crystal clear water and white sand!


Talk about a hidden gem. Among locals, Nambung Beach is famous for a “beach waterfall" known as Air Terjun Pantai Nambung.

From Torok Beach, don't make the mistake of following the dirt road around the coast. Instead, you'll need to continue on the sealed road, up the mountain and then back around until you reach Nambung Village.

Nambung Beach is one of my favorite beaches near Kuta Lombok for a few reasons. You might want to bring your mask and snorkel. We spotted an insane amount of turtles swimming right near the shore! The Nambung Beach saltwater waterfall is an attraction that is worth visiting at low tide. As strong waves break over the flat rocks on the left side of the beach, it creates the illusion of a tall waterfall that you can stand under.

Hands down the best spa in Kuta Lombok! Located on the main street of Kuta, make sure you book your treatment a day in advance.

Great massages, definitely after surfing or a hike on Rinjani. They also do hear treatments to nurture your hair that is always out in the sun and ocean water. We tried a facial for the first time the other day and that was an amazing experience too! They also manage the Spa in Rascals Hotel and Mana Yoga. Nine Nine Studio is located in town, on the way to the west bound beaches of South Lombok you will see it on the right side of the road. The focus of the studio is to highlight Lombok culture, empower women and upcycle traditional sarongs. You can buy great bags, pouches, sarongs and other items there but also customize your own by choosing the fabrics. 
 
They also do great workshops at the studio, there is a Bamboo Postcard workshop and a Coco, Sambal Coffee work shop. Just check their instagram for the schedule and sign up! 
We had a great time and it was super cool to learn something new! The workshops are also great to do as a family.

Kenza does a Seafood Sunday event every Sunday afternoon in Kuta Lombok with live music by April. They have fresh oysters, seafood starters and live cooking with the biggest paella pan I have ever seen! They also have a good wine selection by bottle and glass, oysters and Prosecco is our perfect Sunday afternoon! Nice atmosphere, great taste and the service it super attentive. The Sunday that we were there there was also the Lombok Eco Market in their garden, but that is not every week.

Perfect afternoon work out at Tampah Hills. They have 2 padel courts that you can rent by the hour. There is also a normal tennis court, soccer field and a volley ball court. Its just 20 minutes west of town.

Fun gym in the center of town with a recovery center > sauna, ice bath and magnesium pool.  They give great classes too, our favorite are the Muay Thai classes and the HIIT classes, I can guarantee you that you want to go in an ice bath after that!

A gym located in a really cool bamboo building. Xeno fit is a great spot to stay fit during your holiday. They have lots of fitness equipment and nice classes to join.
Whether you're a local or a tourist, their fitness center is the perfect sanctuary for anyone looking to get in shape and stay healthy.

Selong Belanak is a great spot to spend the day but the real magic starts around sunset time. Every afternoon the buffalos go from the spots where they eat back to the stables where they sleep, this journey goes over the beach of Selong Belanak. Cool experience to see the buffalos do their really chilled beachwalk and a great picture moment while the sun is setting.

On the way back from the sunset at Selong Belanak beach a stop at Klub Kembali is a must! A great cocktail bar and restaurant where they really have passion for what they do. They use a lot

of local ingredients and infuse spirits, to give every cocktail that extra touch. Try their Negroni’s, you won’t regret it! Every other cocktail that I tried there was great too. Food is nice too and the service is great!

Bukit Merese is one of the best spots in Kuta Lombok to watch the sunset from. This hill overlooking Tanjung Aan Bay on the east and has a view towards Kuta bay on the west where the sun is setting. This sunset spot is only a 15 minute drive away from the centre of Kuta Lombok. The total length of the cliffs is about 1 kilometer, so there is plenty of room for everybody to find a peaceful place to admire the setting sun. Exploring Bukit Merese is one of the awesome things to do in South Lombok.

10 Places You Shouldn't Miss When You Are Visiting Kuta Lombok

Great spot to start the day, in the front they have a nice terrace and the coffee is amazing! For the all day breakfast our favorites are the açai bowl, bircher muesli and the big breakfast is everything you need after a big day. For lunch they also offer a different lunch and dinner menu, great shared seafood dishes, baby romaine salad, whole roasted chicken and great imported steaks. Great mediterranean food in the heart of Kuta Lombok. I love what they did after the renovation,the open kitchen looks amazing, the terrace is the front is beautiful and the courtyard in the backis a real surprise, check it out. Great cocktails too and probably the biggest wine selection in Kuta Lombok. We tried the oysters, smoked burrata and babaganoush with fresh baked pita to startwith, for the mains we shared the fish of the day, lamb, prawn (biggest one I have ever seen, sogood) with some sides, don’t miss the cauliflower and the local greens!

Knalpot is a more upscale restaurant located on the main strip of Kuta Lombok. I like their breakfast sandwiches, especially the one with home made goat cheese. Lunch and dinner menu is also great food, asian inspired, love their cocktails and they got many beers on tap! We love to order half the menu and share everything. There is a nice terrace at the front and I love the garden in the back.

KRNK is located on the main strip in Kuta Lombok and is famous for their delicious burgers and pizzas. They grill the burgers outdoor on a massive grill for everyone to see. The burgers are absolutely delicious, their hotdog is something special too, you got to try it. The space is open and inviting with plenty of people. Great cocktails and the hip hop music that they play perfectly fits the vibe.

Just opened skate park in Kuta Lombok. They have two skate bowls, offer skate lessons, have a great shop and a restaurant next to it. Love the vibe, great spot to hang out. Love the corner next to the skate bowl where you can have a soft landing practicing tricks (I’m not on that level yet but can’t wait to jump in)!

Cantina Mexicana is a great Mexican restaurant in Kuta Lombok. They are a real Mexican stylecantina serving real corn tacos in a relaxed chilled atmosphere. Great Margaritas too! I tried manyof their tacos and they are as close to Mexico as it gets for somewhere that is half way around theworld. They make their own corn tortilla for the tacos and the tortilla chips are also prepared onthe spot and delicious. Price quality is good and the service is great too, the team is happy andalways up for a chat. Come here for Taco Tuesdays as they have a special deal. Buy a margaritaand get any taco for free. The restaurant often turns into a party at the end of the night becauseeverybody love the music and the vibe!

Jiang Nan Lombok is an authentic Chinese style restaurant, we were surprised to find this place in Kuta Lombok. We love the dumplings, especially the ones in spicy oil. Cocktails are great too, don’t miss the passion fruit martini. Great vibe, staff is friendly!

Who would have thought you could find solid ramen in a place as remote as Lombok? Ya me neither! They have solid ramen made from chicken and seafood, as well as gyozas, tonkatsu, and other Japanese delicacies. The place is tiny like in Japan, so you might have to wait a bit but its worth it.

Without a doubt, Tasty Hesty has the best Indonesian curries in Kuta, Lombok. It’s located right by the beach with a great upstairs space offering chilled vibes. It is the perfect spot to grab a local Nasi Goreng or Curry after a hard surf session.

This one in in Selong Belanak, but one of our favorites on the island! Amazing cocktails inspired and made with local ingredients. You feel the love that went into this concept, I try to always choose a different cocktail when I come there and they never disappoint! The food is super nice too. Must stop when you come from Selong Belanak, they open at 3 pm :)
